The Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show makes every effort to ensure that our events are inclusive and accessible for all members of our community. We welcome our visitors to discuss their requirements with us.

Travellers Aid will be providing an Access and Inclusion Service to encourage everyone to participate in one of Melbourne’s most iconic events. The service will assist people with mobility challenges to access the event and with getting around the venue if required.  

The service will be available to Show attendees during the following:

Travellers Aid will have a designated service contact number during the event. This number will provide guests and MIF&GS staff a direct contact to TA’s duty manager who will be able to arrange support at the event.

Travellers Aid will provide service at:

Southern Cross Station

Our team at Southern Cross Station will provide Connection Service Assistance at the station where guests can be met on the platform and transferred by buggy to Yarra Trams Stop – 1, (Bourke & Spencer Streets) to connect onto the 86 or 96 tram services which will take guest to Stop – 11 (Gertrude Street), the closest tram stop to the Main Entrance of the show and inside the event. This service can be booked by calling 03 9670 2072 or you can make an online booking at www.travellersaid.org.au

From this location we can offer trained Companion Service volunteers to support people with a mobility challenge or people who are unsure about using public transport to be with you all along the way to the entrance of the Flower and Garden Show. We can offer a free volunteer service inside the event as well to support people who hired a wheelchair from us and need some assistance to get around the event (maximum of 3 hours). This service requires pre-booking as well before the show commences. Please phone the service contact number – 0498 023 959 to find out more.

Yarra Trams Stop – 11          

Travellers Aid team members will be located at Yarra Trams Stop – 11 (Gertrude Street), where they can assist guests from the tram to a Buggy Connection Service which will take guest to the Main Entrance and back to the stop for their return trip.

Buggy Connection Service

A buggy Connection Service will operate from Yarra Trams Stop – 11 (Gertrude Street), to the Main Entrance and from the Accessible Parking Facility to the Main Entrance.

Accessible Car Park Support

Support will be provided at the accessible carpark where patrons will be assisted from their vehicle to the main entry by wheelchair or buggy transfer on arrival in the morning and again on their return to their car. For people who park in the accessible car park and have pre-booked (hired) a manual wheelchair, please let our staff there know and we can drop-off the equipment.

Wheelchair and Stroller Hire
A limited number of manual wheelchairs and strollers will be available for daily hire (terms and conditions apply). Travellers Aid’s hire facility will be located within the MIF&GS grounds next to the Information Booth at the main water fountain. You can book by calling, 0498 023 959.  Onsite hire is subject to availability.

COMPANION CARD

The Show is affiliated with the ‘Companion Card’ program. The Companion Card promotes the right of people with a disability, who require a companion, to fair ticketing at Victorian events and venues. People with a disability who require a companion to access the event with them must produce their ‘Companion Card’ at time of Show entry. This will allow the card holder’s companion to access the event free of charge. Normal adult and concession prices will apply to the Companion Card holder.

VICTORIAN CARER CARD

The Show is affiliated with the Victorian Carer Card program. The program is a State Government initiative that is helping to recognise & reward the carers of Victoria for the significant contribution they make to the lives of the people they care for & communities in which they live.

Victorian Carer Card holders will be entitled to the discounted concession priced ticket & may purchase one per Carer Card.

GETTING TO THE SHOW VIA ACCESSIBLE PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Tram

All services on tram Route 96 will be low floor accessible trams. The following tram stops are accessible:

  • All stops along Bourke Street
  • Stop 10 Parliament Station (Albert and Nicholson streets)
  • Stop 11

Bus

All metropolitan buses are low floor accessible. Please see the metropolitan bus section above for service times.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING FACILITIES

The accessible car park entrance is via Rathdowne Street, and has limited spaces available.

There will be additional Disabled Parking spaces available on Rathdowne Street, between Queensbury Street and Victoria Parade, along the Carlton Gardens side of Rathdowne Street.

MOBILITY EQUIPMENT HIRE

The Melbourne Mobility Centre is no longer operating, however, visitors may hire mobility and access equipment from Travellers Aid at both Flinders Street, Southern Cross Stations and onsite at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show. Pre-booking of equipment from Travellers Aid is essential. Please keep in mind that if you do opt to hire equipment from Travellers Aid, you must travel from either station to The Carlton gardens

ACCESSIBLE TOILET FACILITIES

All toilet facilities at the Show are accessible for all patrons. A map highlighting all public toilets at the Show will be available here closer to the event.

ACCESSIBILE ACCESS

The Accessible access in and out of the Royal Exhibition Building and the Carlton Gardens will be through the main public entries.
