The Hanging Basket Competition Presented By Australian Unity

Since 2001, the Hanging Basket Competition has been a beloved community showcase where gardeners of all skill levels create spectacular displays. In 2026, 250 hanging baskets will transform Carlton Gardens into an overhead garden – a dazzling array of colour, creativity and horticultural talent suspended above the pathways.
Open to everyone from seasoned green thumbs to first-time participants, this competition celebrates the connection between gardening and wellbeing. Collect your basket and potting mix from local nurseries, create your masterpiece at home, and see it displayed for five days alongside Australia’s best garden designs.
Participants receive complimentary Show tickets, personalised signage, and a certificate – with the top 10 entries awarded prize money.
