The Melbourne Gin Company (MGC) was established in 2012 to create gin with flavour, character, and distinction. Founded by Yarra Valley winemaker Andrew Marks, MGC pays homage to a city renowned for its culture, coffee and cocktails.
Inspired by Melbourne’s vibrant spirit, MGC pioneered the very first Melbourne Dry Gin, setting a new benchmark for the local industry. Made in stills originally designed for perfume production, Andrew’s gins embrace an innovative approach—distilling each botanical individually before blending them into a harmonious composition.
MGC is an independent distillery committed to artisan craftsmanship. Each batch is hand-crafted, distilled with locally grown and exotic botanicals, and fresh local rainwater.
The result? A classic gin with a distinct Melbourne twist.
Perfume Stills Creating Botanical Alchemy
With no guidebooks on gin-making in 2011, Andrew took a winemaker’s approach to distillation. He meticulously experimented, distilling each botanical separately to understand its unique aroma and flavour. His blending expertise led to the creation of Melbourne Dry Gin in 2013, where 11 individual distillations come together in every bottle.
MGC’s perfume stills allow for a gentle and precise extraction, preserving the delicate essence of the botanicals. Ingredients such as juniper, citrus, orris root, and angelica root form the gin’s foundation, while native Australian elements—sandalwood, honey myrtle, leatherwood honey, and macadamia nut—add depth and a local signature.
